My own “My Dog Has Fleas” sketch.
In case you don’t already know “my dog has fleas" refers to an old song whose first four notes match the uke’s four strings when using the standard C-tuning (strings are GCEA — "good cooks eat alot”).
This flea-thing works out exceptionally well, too, because ukulele’s literal Hawaiian meaning is “jumping flea”, which isn’t so odd as their state fish’s name means “fish with a nose like a pig” — the famed humuhumunukunukuapua’a. Big on the similes, those Hawaiians.
This design’s available on CafePress as a sticker, magnet, button, and the ever popular coffee mug (though I actually just made this for myself — need a new office mug and wasn’t happy with uke designs I found, so made my own).
OK, quick update: CafePress’s changed some policies ‘n such (don’t ask lest I rant) so I’m shilling three mug designs on Printfection (I wanted a set, which is unnecessarily complicated to do on CP). I’ve ordered a couple mugs which have yet to arrive, when they do I’ll report back as to the quality.
I rather fancy the Uke Practice Mug (pictured, far right) if I say so myself.
Thanks to Tony Soh on VectoryDiary for his tutorial on simulating wood grain with Illustrator. Thanks also PSDGraphics for the Coffee Mug used in the comp above. The font is Desigers Bold.
