Documentary filmmaker Hidenori Ishida follows actress Yoriko Horaguchi who, 12 years ago, formed her unique ukulele group.
Which, of course, in no way prepares you for how strange this little video and its song are, in that charmingly off kilter Japanese way.

Illustrator and character designer Juan Molinet’s “alter-ego” illustration of David Kamp, “a furry musical beast sitting in a world of his own.”
As good as this kazoo-nosed, ukulele-horned, furry, Seuss-ian critter is, it’s Juan’s Fake Vintage Japanese Ad Characters that steal the show on his site “Le Bureau des Monstres” (The Ministry of Monsters).
I like robots, ancient cultures, toys, rubberhose animation, food, surrealism, pop culture of any country, kaiju, destruction, obscure things and much more!

Baron & Jordon バロン&ジョーダン - perform “Banana” live aboard the Arakawa-sen streetcar in Tokyo, Japan (by thejordon)
A multi-talented dual from Tokyo perform “Banana” aboard a streetcar — muted trumpet, uke, shaky-gordy-thingy, and tap dancing — how cool! Or their retro-tastic cover of Rose Murphy’s “Busy Line”, full of “Brrrppppttt Brrrrrrps!” (if my memory of Mad magazine’s sound effects spelling issue serves me correctly) that should make this a parent’s go-to tune for entertaining kiddies. Sadly, their debut album is only available from iTunes Japan.

Incredibly cool Kawaii uke by Japanese luthier Koji Sujiura (Cozy Guitar Craft), auctioned as part of Japan earthquake relief.
I’ve attempted anthropomorphizing the uke for a year, challenge being that centered sound hole. Solution: make two!

Choose either “U”, the rabbit, or “900”, the grumpy bear (which comes as a pineapple uke). Both include quite nifty gig bags. (it’s worth visiting Anuenu Ukulele’s U900 page to listen to the music player or check out U900’s MySpace page)

Edelweiss (ukulele instrumental) (via keonepax)
Spent this afternoon learning John Pak’s terrific rendition of “Edelweiss”. Download his thoughtfully arranged tab sheet to strum/pluck along.
Pre-uke I’d set myself the goal of learning this song on guitar. I failed miserably. Thankfully. A year later I bought my uke.
I’m sorry to say that I’ve found no chords for “Ultraman March” — anyone? But here’s the album’s track listing. Looks like a winner, eh?
Ultraman Ukulele. I’ll wait while you reread that. Yes, indeed. Uh-huh. THE Ultraman. And a ukulele!!! (via pathduck)
