The popularity of Pachelbel’s Canon in D must rival “Over the Rainbow” among ukers, and why not? A super easy chord progression (five, count ‘em, five easy chords) that also introduces the fun of arpeggios (general noodling around the notes within a given chord — no clinkers possible) in standard four-four time:
[D] [A] [Bm] [F#m]
[G] [D] [G] [A]
Plus, we can apply the Ukulele Chord Magic lessons to use alternate “A” and “D” voicings that add (much needed) variety and even make that transition to Bm easier
Check out these two kids’ impromptu Canon in D “Ukulele Jam” then try it yourself (if you peruse YouTube you’ll find countless thousands more, but don’t — at least not before you’ve tried first).
If you have a group even better! Play the chords on your ukes while, for the “melody”, hum kazoos, do barnyard animals (quite popular with young’ns), or do some old school off-key operatic belting out. Have fun, don’t be too serious. Enjoy.
